MYSORE: RBI Deputy Governor Dr KC Chakrabarty on Friday said that economic revolution in the country will be a reality if banks involve themselves in it and provide banking facilities to everyone. Inaugurating a new branch of Canara Bank at Gungaral Chatra, a suburban village near here, under the bank's rural outreach programme, he said: "Many Indians are deprived of banking facilities, and economic revolution will happen only when rural populace come into the network of banks."..........

'Delay in foreign currency loan disbursal unacceptable'

INDORE: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has asked the banks, having their presence in the state, not to delay disbursal of foreign currency loans. In case any bank official is found to be involved in such kind of practice, then RBI will take a strict action against him. Banks have also been instructed to treat foreign currency loans at par with normal bank loans. The information was shared by RBI Executive Director G Padmanabhan while interacting with the exporters and importers of the region here on Friday. Padmanabhan was here to attend FEMA exhibition/interface-cum-workshop. Padmanabhan, on the occasion, asked the regional director of RBI (Bhopal), PR Ravi Mohan to conduct snap audit at the branches of the banks to find out the reality. He also asked him to take action against those found negligent towards their duty.............

........Clarifying RBI guidelines- PM Pethe, OSD from Foreign Exchange Dealers' Association (FEDA) said that before receiving payments from overseas, the receiver should have proper knowledge about the credentials of the foreign based person who released the payment. He claimed that KYC norms have been introduced to check money laundering through such overseas transactions..........

RBI committee to study financial benchmarks


Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has set up a committee to study various issues relating to financial benchmarksP Vijaya Bhaskar, Executive Director, RBI is the chairman of the committee and it will have representation of select market participants, Clearing Corporation of India Ltd (CCIL) and academia, RBI said in a statement. Terms of reference of the committee are to study all major financial benchmarks in India with a view to assessing their current relevance and usage, fallback mechanisms in place in the event of benchmark being rendered obsolete and suggest changes, if required for inclusion of new benchmarks or exclusion of some of the existing benchmarks...........


Create separate wealth management division, RBI tells banks

.........The RBI issued the draft guidelines on wealth management/marketing/distribution services in the wake of recent allegations of banks being involved in tax evasion and fraudulent transfer of funds practices. In the guidelines, the RBI said banks may conduct all WMS activities — referral, investment advisory service and portfolio management service — either from a separate subsidiary or through a separately identifiable department/division. Banks, including their subsidiaries, who are already undertaking the above activities, may reorganise the structure in accordance with the final guidelines within a period of one year from the date of issue of the final guidelines.................

RBI makes it easier to report fake notes to banks

The next time someone passes on a fake currency note to you without your knowledge, you need not palm it off surreptitiously. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday directed banks to accept all fake notes over the counter from customers and pay them back the full amount. In return, banks will get 25% of the amount of the fake note back from the RBI............

Stop buying gold, everything will be in order: RBI official

.........Quoting the finance minister's suggestions, Chakrabarty said Indians should end their clamour for gold, and stop buying the yellow metal. "CAD will come down automatically then," he added. When asked whether Indians' spree to buy gold is a strong enough to jeopardize the country's economy itself, he said: "Last year, Indians imported gold worth $53 billon. Is this not sufficient to eat away the reserves?" he asked................







Forget RBI, even corporate India is making gold purchases tougher

RBI flags high home prices

...........A major cost is the purchase of land, which can work out to a substantial portion of the total project cost in metro areas. Currently, developers have to resort to private financing to cover the purchase of land. The RBI has given a 'high risk' weight to land purchase and banks do not offer financing. The move is essentially aimed at preventing asset bubbles, which were the prime reason for the 2008 financial crisis..............

RBI plans to ban incentives for third party product sales

........In most cases, there was no segregation of duties of marketing function from other branch jobs and banks do not engage separate workforce which creates a conflict between banks' interest and that of the third party insurance or asset management company. There were instances of bank employees directly receiving incentives from other entities for selling their products. "Banks must ensure that there is no violation of the above in the incentive structure to staff," RBI said in the draft rules issued on Friday as it underscored a need for better regulatory compliance by banks.........

Reserve Bank of India set to hand out new banking licences

.................While the regulator is expected to receive dozens of applications, analysts expect only a handful of them to get approval. But getting a licence is just the beginning - the new banks will have to gain the trust of people especially from rural areas who have been wary of depositing their money with private banks.

Confident of getting bank license: Birla
