India needs to do away with regulatory forbearance on restructured assets

......The recommendation that the RBI may (must?) do away with regulatory forbearance regarding asset classification, provisioning and capital adequacy on restructuring of loans does both. It brings our norms on asset classification on par with developed market standards. And it ensures that powerful promoters are not able to arm-twist banks into throwing good money after bad.........
