Reddy may be head of next finance panel

Former RBI Governor Y V Reddy, hailed as the man who saved the Indian economy from the 2008 global financial crisis, could be soon named the head of the 14th Finance Commission. The main objective of the commission, which is re-constituted every five years under a residential directive, is to define the financial relations between the Centre and states. Reddy, if appointed, will be Vijay Kelkar’s successor who headed the 13th Finance Commission, which submitted its report to Parliament in February 2010.
