NEW DELHI: The task of appointing chairmen of state-run banks is proving to be a challenge for the government, with its vigilance machinery getting bogged down in a myriad of corruption charges against selected candidates. Since taking office in July, P Chidambaram
has cleared the selection of chairmen for six state-run banks,
including lateral movement of two bank chiefs. However, two banks-Bank
of India and Canara Bank-have been functioning without a chief since
Monday.........
