..........All the PMEAC members are likely to submit their resignations shortly as their term in co-terminus with that of the Prime Minister. The new BJP-led government headed by Narendra Modi will take within a few days. Dr. Rangarajan has been the Chairman of PMEAC since 2005. He is a well known economist and a former Member of Parliament...........

In India, inteligentia is used by politicians to give credibility to their foul actions. Two instances one can quote: Rangarajan Panel was used to recommend 100% increase in gas prices which helped RIL and not the end users. Every time when the govt was confronted, the former Minister Mr Moily used to indicate that the govt was only implementing the recommendations as made out by Rangarajan Panel.
Second, The book 'Capital in The 21st Century' by Thomas Piketty (just released in May 2014) has questioned the veracity of the GDP figures, opaqueness of Income Tax department in providing information etc., in India. He has also expressed his shock that 1% in India owns 8-9% National Income.
In the circumstances, the long tenure of Dr Rangarajan as PMEAC since 2005 and his team can be considered as infructuous and they have failed the country in providing correct information to the world at large.
