Recent developments including those in the areas of science, technology, agriculture and management together with the impact of globalization are exerting pressure on the existing institutions to improve quality and increase output at the same time. Like the Railways and Post and Telegraph recruited individuals who scored high marks in SSC in olden times, service sector (banks, IT etc) are today going for the soft option of recruiting from the engineering college campuses, though they actually do not need engineers for the job profile they offer. This is a drain on nation’s resources.
Several mismatches are happening in training, placement and career progressions in institutions on account of the non-availability of candidates matching with the skill-expectations of recruiters. Solution lies in GOI coming out with an Education Policy which takes into account the present day needs of all sectors at various levels and infusing professionalism of internationally acceptable standards across institutions.
